Managing the Albemarle Gate car park for race goers has earned Friends of Pittville the grand total of £5220. This money will go towards the improvement projects in the Park. Thanks go to Henry and Chris for organising it, to the many volunteers for helping manage it, and to Cheltenham Borough Council for giving us permission for use the car park for this purpose.
One of our Cheltenham Lottery supporters, Sally Thomas, has very generously donated her winnings (£250!) to Friends of Pittville. At her request the money will go towards the purchase of 3 cherry trees for ‘Bed 38’ – the bed at the corner of Evesham Road and Wellington Road that we are currently redeveloping. Thank you, Sally.

Bed 38 is our nickname for the Pittville Park bed at the junction of Evesham Road and Wellington Road, opposite the hotel, Number 38. FoP has taken on the redevelopment of this previously unmaintained bed with the aim of creating a lovely corner in this part of the Park. After a lot of digging, and removing the overgrown shrubs, it will be planted with flowering cherries and shrubs and should look good all year round.
This photo shows Green Space volunteers removing ground elder and reshaping the edge of the bed. For one session there we were joined by 4 gardeners from Steve Carter Garden Maintenance who kindly donated an hour of their time to help the work along.
