The swans

Our mute swan pair on Pittville lakes had six cygnets in the spring of 2024. Two were taken (by predators unknown) early on, and one was injured whilst learning to fly. It recovered in Vale Wildlife Hospital, but was away too long to be reintroduced to the family unit so went elsewhere.

The remaining youngsters are thriving but will soon be chased off to pastures new to allow George and Maisie to bring up another clutch of cygnets this spring. BUT there is an interloper on the upper lake! Apparently, two young cygnets flew in to the upper lake a few weeks ago, probably chased out of their family unit, and one has stayed and seems happy and well fed. Let’s see what happens when George discovers the interloper!
