Two hundred years since the laying of the Pump Room foundation stone

We wanted to mark the bicentenary of the laying of the Pump Room foundation stone in 1825. So we decided, with the agreement of Cheltenham Borough Council, to design and make an information board for the park that would tell the history of the Pump Room, and provide information on the ‘season’ and the spa water. It would also record the restoration of the Pump Room and the steps.

The starting point for the board was the leaflet ‘Pittville Pump Room – A brief history’, written by Fiona Clarke in 2020. The project was coordinated by Chris Archibald, who asked Catherine Martin and Sally Thomas to write sections of the text. Joc Potter, Fiona Clarke and Stephen Blake checked the board for factual, grammatical and spelling errors. Peter Adams of Springboard Graphics, who did the artwork for the welcome and habitat boards in the park, also designed the layout of this board.
